I'm not an expert when it comes to microwaves, but I'd play this one safe. It'd be hard to tell if it's tainting your food with harmful chemicals etc.

Hello shejo!
The probability of a toxic material being used as an internal paint in a microwave oven is very small indeed - especially if it is a US/Canada/Western European distributor. The paint is primarily cosmetic and should not be expected to interfere with the operation of the unit. It is very unlikely that there would be any toxic consequences, and it is similarly unlikely the peeling paint will impact performance. However, it probably looks ugly – recommend that you consider replacement. Cheers! Caoimhín P. Connell......I have a big old Tappan microwave. The paint is beginning to peel in the corner and spreading.....I tried coating with adhesive then painting with Ceramco artist paint. It didn't work. I know better than to use any kind of paint that contains metals, or at least I do. What kind of paint should I use....I can't afford a new microwave......Thanks........Jim

Hello Jim!
Good question! I don’t have a clue. As a scientist, I explain risks of adverse health effects from toxicological responses to chemicals and exposures to ionizing and non-ionizing radiations (such as microwave exposures). However, when it comes to fixing appliances, or recommending paints etc, I am a complete idiot! I would say this, however, if the problem you describe occurred in my microwave appliance, I would merely clean the peeling paint from the interior of the oven and continue to use it until the unit dies a respecable death. But that’s just me, Friend! Cheers! Caoimhín P.
