Default i have a heat pump system the air handler blows fine with mi...

i have a heat pump system the air handler blows fine with minimal heat but the outside unit compressor does not kick on. after taking the cover off the outside unit i didn't see a reset button. i did use a piece of wood and pushed in on the contact and the unit comes on as long as it is pushed in?any ideas would be great. thanks bg
