Default I have a lamp that is wired into a receptacle.

I have a lamp that is wired into a receptacle. The receptacle was controlled by a light switch, or at least one of the plugs was. I replaced the receptacle because the lamp was shorting out. When I replaced the receptacle the light stays on all the time. The light switch has no impact on the outlet.
Any idea what I did wrong? or how I can correct it.

Was your receptacle hot all the time on one side, and the other side controlled by the switch? If it was, you had two black (hot) wires going to the receptacle, one a constant hot and the other controlled by the switch. If this is the case, you need to cut the metal tab that links the hot to both sides of the receptacle, so they will operate independently.

Mark
Clip it on both sides or just one? Yes one was controlled by the switch before, which turned off whatever was plugged into it.

Just the side that has the brass colored screws. That is the hot side. Do not clip the side that has the white, or silver colored screws. That is the neutral side.
