Making my own electrical extension cords for use outside
I need to make electrical extension cords for use outside my home (for Christmas lights). What wire should I use? I'll probably need between 500' and 1000' for cords (I'm planning a HUGE Christmas light display). I also want to be able to hide the cords in plain sight (no yellow or orange wire since seeing the wire colors will take away from the light show).
The light show (80,000 lights synchronized to music) will require a total of 165 Amps (I'm arranging to have local electrical contractors provide written estimates of what it will cost to add circuits to my home to handle a total of 200Amps for the show).
I've also been told that Electirc Companies will not allow a home's service panel to have more than 200Amps total so I'll have to have a 2nd service line run to my house for the additional 200Amps that I need. Is this correct? If so, what will it entail and how expensive is this going to be?
