Re air source heat pumps: Would a heat pump be a good HVAC choice in Palm Springs, CA where high summer temps are typically 100-115 and low winter temps are typically 50-60 and natural gas is available?

I have been in the heating and cooling industry for a long time.
If you have natural gas on the property...always go gas! you live in a good climate for heat pumps however heat pumps are prone to many failures and tend to be have a shorter life. In most parts of the southwest at least...gas is much more effecent. keep in mind if you are buying a 16 SEER heat pump....that rating is only in air conditioning mode. In heat mode the same rating drops to about 10 SEER. let me know if you have more questions I will be happy to help out. FYI SEER = seasonal energy effecency rating
