We will be building our own home this fall in WV at an elevation of 2893`. We have 15 acres overlooking 300k private acres. What is the best choice, build on stilts or directly on the ground? We will be heating with a Crown Royal 650 gallon outdoor furnace.

depends on the terrain of the land and flood plain levels if you are in a valley. I have found in my experience.....always go with a good fondation on the ground and pre-pipe all your radiant heat.

good luck on the build

I wouldn't trust stilts for all the house. Winds are going to pose a problem as it is at that elevation. If you are going into a slope stilts might work on the extending part outward. If you are on a rise then I would want a solid foundation, if it's elevation your looking for do a basement type home.

Good luck
