Default Oil base paint used on inside trim and doors - 12 years ago.

Oil base paint used on inside trim and doors - 12 years ago. Can I use a latex higloss paint successfully?

Sure can.... My approach would be this: 1)Scuff the surface with some 'finish' grade sand paper, or steel wool....be gentile, you're just 'disrupting' the integrity of the paint, not 'shredding' it!....2)dust/wipe it down with a dry cloth, etc........3)Vaccume.....4)now apply one 'base' coat of oil PRIMER(you cna get this 'tinted' to match you top coat, by most paint retailers......If you're going with a drastic color change, a second coat is suggessted....5)Then you can apply you top coat...remember: You'll need multiple coats to achieve that high-gloss look(Repeat steps 1-3 between top coats)........always follow product instructions.....Have fun!
