I have to install either a propane or an electric furnace. The home is 24 X 20 with a full basement and an open half loft. In a pretty cold climate. I`ve heard heating with propane is very expensive now. Which should I choose?

The cost of propane is going up as well as electric.
When you say electric do you mean a heat pump? Or just a electric furnace. If you live in a very cold climate a heat pump will only give you cold fustruating nights....electric furnaces will heat the home but if you dont currently have a electric furnace then the installation may be costly due to running a new high voltage circuit to the unit.....propane heat wonderfuly and will give you a very comfortable home, however the operating cost will be more than a electric furnace. If you do go with a propane furnace....look into 90% AFUE high effecient models or units with what is call a modulating gas valve. York has a great furnace that would meet your needs. It will cost a little more up front but the warranties are much better and they are very effecent. good luck hope this helped some
