Default Recessed Lights Go Off and On

my light fickers on and off at quite some rate when switch on. I am going to replace the wiring to and from the switch and rose. but do you have any wee tests that I can try before doing this.

It sounds like you too much load on your neutral going back to the panel. YOU should not attempt to replace the wire yourself, unless you are a certified electrician, NEVER! When it comes to electricity, there is no such thing as a " wee test ".
