Do I need a permit to turn my garage into a game room?

As far as I know, as long as the physical dimensions of the garage aren't going to be altered, and you're not going to be making money from the games/or hosting a gambling club
, you should be fine without one. But it couldn't hurt to check with your local authorities. |

Yes you do.
Especially if your changing the use of the structure. Call your local building department and ask them - they are the ones who interpret and enforce the building codes.
