Default Need permit to convert garage to game room?

Do I need a permit to turn my garage into a game room?

As far as I know, as long as the physical dimensions of the garage aren't going to be altered, and you're not going to be making money from the games/or hosting a gambling club, you should be fine without one.

But it couldn't hurt to check with your local authorities.

Yes you do.

Especially if your changing the use of the structure. Call your local building department and ask them - they are the ones who interpret and enforce the building codes.
