I moved a piece of furniture and found the carpet underneath is much darker compared to the rest of the room. Is there any way to lighten the carpet where the piece of furniture was to match the rest of the room?

That fading is caused by UV light from the sun. You might want to contact your homeowners' insurance to see if they cover this type of damage. You can have the carpet dyed, but the results will be totally dependent upon who does the work. Another option is to replace the section of damaged carpet with a section that is in good shape. I always recommend people keep remnants for this purpose but, if you don't have leftovers from when the carpet was installed, you can switch the section with one from a less noticeable location. I guess your only other option is to replace the entire area or to move the furniture back where it was.
