Garbage Disposal stops up and doesn't run

Ok, so the garbage disposal doesn`t work. No humming no grinding nothing. When water is run down the drain it backs up. When the diswasher runs that side of the sink where the disposal is backs up as well. Can someone help?

had the same problem......something is stuck in your blades,,,,there is a tool(looks like an allen wrench),,that fits to the bottom of the disposal,,power off...connect tool,,turn left or right..stick your hand in the disposal and dig out whatever is there..could be something really small like a piece of metal...i too...thought it was a clogged pipe or hose,,,,good luck....oh.,make sure you hit the red reset button at the bottom also
