I have an older art deco lamp with one of those cords that has a switch in the middle of it, and the wires inside the switch have come apart, and I`m not sure how to re-wire the thing. Have considered replacing the cord, but the lamp is sealed around the cord at the entry point in the base, so that the cord doesn`t budge when I try to pull it and a new cord through from the top of the lamp. I`m afraid to get tough with it, as I don`t want to ruin the lamp. Any suggestions, short of taking it to a professional? Thanks.

Since the lamp is sealed, you can splice a new cord, and switch to the old one. There are kits at your Do It Yourself store (e.g. Lowes) that can be purchased that have instructions and diagrams.
